When the Saints Go Marching In

November 2, 2015

This weekend was filled with many first for the boys. First Halloween and first All Saints Day, both accompanied by a lot of candy, treats and fun!

We were not sure if they would get into the whole trick or treating scene or be willing to go up to people’s doors, but when candy was involved they made a run for it.  I loved how some of our neighbors said they had been waiting for the boys and had extra treats for them.

It was a cold, rainy evening so once around the block and they had their fill. Amazing how much candy accumulates in just 30 minutes! Also amazing how sweet they are wanting to share their candy with mommy and daddy. Headed home for a warm bowl of chili and the candy counters started taking stock of their stash.

They were soccer players by night…

Costume change and the next day we celebrated All Saints Day. We wanted to try to keep the focus on All Saints Day, so I put a little more effort into those costumes. I now realize I probably put too much stress on myself trying to get them the perfect costume as they were both beyond thrilled with what I came up with.

Leading up to All Saints Day we talked about different saints, their lives and what they are known for and the boys decided on a couple of their favorites. Blessed to have St. Michael and St. Dominic in our presence, at least for a few hours! Even had my creative juices flowing and together with Aaron we made some pretty impressive angel wings using cardboard and snow batting.

To celebrate we attended a wonderful All Saints Day party put on by a local parish complete with food, games and crafts. Plus, the boys were able to wear their costumes to Mass and march into church with the rest of the little saints.

When Sunday evening rolled around Ethan asked if we could do both days over again next week. Needless to say they loved all of it and had a blast! Of course proud mommy moment seeing them wanting to participate in all of it and willing to try new things.

What about you? Do you have any fun traditions you enjoyed this past weekend?
