7 Takes, Short and Sweet

1.  Joining Quick Takes this week for a short 7. It’s all my mom brain can formulate.

2.  Realizing the drawback of being mom, there is no PTO or sick days. When you are sick you just keep going and going! Grateful for screen time, easy dinners and an energetic backup at 5:30pm.

3.  On Tuesday we were going for walks, biking and playing at the park…

4.  …and on Wednesday we were shoveling the driveway and sledding. Wonders of the Midwest, if you can see any wonder in a spring snowstorm!!

5.  Sharing one of my favorite Easter desserts…cheesecake! And a whole lot of it!! I found this recipe a few years ago, because I needed something to serve a crowd and the normal springform pan would not do. It says it only serves 8-10, but I would say more around 12-14.

6.  What’s your favorite Easter treat, homemade or otherwise?

7.  Hoping everyone has a blessed Holy Week as we prepare for Easter. The boys have been rehearsing “He is Risen, Alleluia!!”

IMG_0992I say we are ready!

We had the spring snowstorm too—yuck! My favorite Easter treat are deviled eggs with a twist. I make Japanese fusion ones and will be posting the recipe soon! I agree with you about being a hands-on parent. Suck days are rough!

Here’s the recipe, Ann. I think your boys would like dyeing eggs this way! Enjoy 🙂

Oh my goodness! I don’t really have any favorite Easter recipes. I have to say that growing up we just have a lot of egg salad sandwiches and jelly beans. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do for Easter. Of you are not already familiar with it http://www.holyheroes.com is an awesome website with daily coloring pages and short videos for amazing catechesis for very young children and older as well. Anyway I was thinking about doing some lamb for dinner. Unsure of the rest. I’m hoping to do Easter egg hunting in our big backyard for the little ones. Either way a great celebration is in order. Until then I am still trying to figure out the best way to invoke a spirit of penance during holy week.

Thank you for the suggestion, I am definitely going to check out Holy Heroes as I have not heard of it. I am right with you, still trying to figure out the best way to make the most of holy week.

I wish I could go back in time and tell myself at I wish I could go back in time and tell myself at 23 to trust and to not worry. The journey of infertility and loss will be long and painful, but you are not forgotten.
.
To tell myself at 25 to not lose hope, God sees you and you are incredibly loved by your Creator. To continue to pray despite the discouragement and constant heartache.
.
To tell myself at 27 that infertility does not define you. You are not less, because of what you perceive to be lacking. You are whole, complete and beautiful with or without a baby on your hip.
.
To tell myself at 30 that God's timing is not ours and He has an incredible plan. A plan to fulfill your heart's desires. A plan far greater than your timeline. The wait is never wasted.

It has taken me almost six years and five kids later to establish, put into practice and recognize the importance of a good morning routine. Let this be said, it doesn’t always go perfectly or as planned, because children and motherhood are always fluid.
.
I have found that in taking the time to be intentional about the habits and routine that I do in the morning sets up the day, puts me in the right frame of mind and allows me to be better focused on the tasks ahead.

Joy. Do I really have it? Am I joyful during the t Joy. Do I really have it? Am I joyful during the trials and crosses, the small ones and big ones alike. The spilled milk for the third time that day, being woken up seven times in one night and piles of laundry. The uncertainty of jobs, the loss of loved ones and sickness. Through it all do I maintain joy?
.
In those moments where I feel like it is being robbed from me, what is my response. Looking to myself is not enough and looking to the world only brings more confusion. The only answer is to look up. Look up to a God who is good. A God who loves infinitely and is forever faithful no matter what may come. To look up and remember happiness is fleeting, but true joy comes from knowing Christ.

All of it is empty, meaningless and morbid without the hope of the Resurrection. Without belief in the salvific act of Christ, death defeated and the hope of eternal life, our suffering is in vain and none of it makes sense.
