Bathroom Transformation

April 28, 2020

First things first, this was not a recent project, but a nesting project while I was pregnant. The thought of re-painting multiple rooms right now overwhelms me to be honest, especially when I have papers that still need to be graded from last week.

Currently the big project around our house is switching the kids’ bedrooms, which I will detail in another post. Although, it could not have been done without Ethan taking the bull by the horns and making himself the project manager. So I had no chance to say maybe next week, before I knew it he had the littles’ closet completely organized and rearranged…impressive!

Thought I would share this easy and inexpensive bathroom transformation for those of you looking to give a fresh updated look to your house. The biggest part of this was simply painting. Getting rid of the red apple walls and brightening things up with a gray hue. The dread was how many coats of paint would we have to apply to cover the red. We ended up buying a higher quality of paint and primer in one for this project, and it paid off. The end result was one coat and that included the primer as well!

Here’s the breakdown:
Paint Color – Drifted Wood by Pittsburgh Paint
Shower Curtain – Target
Garbage Can – T.J. Maxx (in their home office aisle)
Glass Vases – Antique Store
Print – Hobby Lobby

Laundry Room Refresh

February 24, 2019

Several months ago we took to painting a few of the rooms in our house including the laundry room and master bath (photos of the master bath to come at a later date). Not sure about you, but laundry is a never ending task in this house. No matter how hard you try to keep up or catch up you are always behind one load or several. Giving the laundry room a bit of a face lift, has made it a bit more calming to walk into.

In addition to painting I added a few cute baskets to update the room, which keep out of reach all of the cleaners, soaps and extra light bulbs. The cake on the top for me was the mini wreath I found while in Waco last Fall and decided to hang it on the cabinet.

Outdoor Living

July 16, 2018

The heat and sunshine has me wanting to slow down from all the busyness this summer has brought and just enjoy the warm air, the long days and the carefree moments before they slip away. I am dreaming up some outdoor living spaces to add to my honey-do list.

I am looking to make our two tier deck a little more inviting with a relaxing space, plus some shade. Thinking a pergola for the second tier of our deck with some Edison lights strung around it would do the trick.

Last summer our fire pit was taken out when we redid some of our yard and it has left me missing campfires with my family, making smores and conversations had. Here is a post on some fire pit ideas, whether diy or store bought.

While pinteresting away for pergola plans I also came across some eye envy backyard spaces.

Dining Room Update

June 28, 2018

In our ten years of marriage we have never purchased a dining room set. During our apartment living we used a cardtable. When we bought our house we received a hand me down table that Aaron refinished. We rummaged his parents attic for some mismatched chairs to go with it that I painted.

Last year a friend had some chairs they were looking to get rid of. I wasn’t sure how they would match with our table, but once assembled loved the brightness they brought to the room. Once I saw how the chairs lightened everything up I decided to trade in the brown curtains for some off-white ones (waiting for the day they get covered with spaghetti sauce).

It’s amazing by how just changing out the chairs and curtains the room really transformed and seems a lot brighter, cheerier and bigger. I decided the room wouldn’t be complete without a new piece of art work. Absolutely love the quote from St. Teresa of Calcutta.

Lighten Up

May 1, 2018

Cabin fever, April snowstorms and the absence of spring most certainly had the four walls of this house closing in on me thus giving me too much time to dream up some home projects. The longest lasting winter ever has pushed me over the edge to wanting to lighten up everything in the house, making it brighter and hopefully giving the feeling of freshness and cheer.

One can of Chiffon Cream Chalk Paint and I set to work eyeing up my targets. Picture frames and candle pillars were the first to go.

I probably could have done a primer paint, but who has time when trying to get a project completed during nap time. I did 3-4 coats of spray paint letting each coat dry a few minutes in between. After drying for an hour I took fine grade sandpaper and distressed the corners and ridges lightly. Loving the end result! Watch out end tables, you may be next.
