In the Books

The stack of books I started the year with. A few of them I have only cracked open and paged through, while others I have had the chance to dive in. Hoping to read through each of them and add to the stack as the year goes on.

I am not a regular bookworm. If I am found reading it is usually to my children. If I try to read after the little ones are in bed the only thing I end up reading are the back of my eyelids. Still, I see the importance of making the time, especially when it is so easy to do all of our reading on a screen. There is something about reading a physical book and turning the pages, the very reason my calendar is still a physical planner. Here they are top to bottom.

Every Sacred Sunday This has been a game changer. It is the first year I have used this book/journal and it is one that I will add to my list year after year. I don’t have to tell anyone with young children the three ring circus little ones excel at performing during Mass. Hence, making it extremely difficult to listen, meditate, focus and pray. This Mass journal has been a wonderful aid in helping me pray through the readings ahead of time, prepare and go forth. Even when I only catch a few words from the homily.

Theology of Home II How many times have I shrunk when someone ask me what I do for a living. Or the dreaded empty line I have to fill in, profession. Stay at home mom, homemaker. This book is a true gift to women. Filled with both wisdom along with beautiful pictures that truly inspire one’s heart.

The Catholic All Year Compendium This is a wonderful resource for bringing the liturgical life alive in your family. So many great ideas and inspiration to create traditions and help build your domestic church. A beautiful way to extend the Mass into your family and every day living.

Homebody I am continually trying to balance function and organization with the desire for design and the art of making a beautiful home. To add, a home friendly to five kiddos. There is something about adding a piece of artwork, decor, or rearranging that is satisfying to a woman’s heart. It doesn’t have to be a complete remodel or buying all new furniture, I find shopping my own home can do wonders.

Cultivate What Matters Powersheets Goal Planner I am so grateful for the gift of this book/planner that I received from a dear friend for Christmas. I have never done goal planning or powersheets before, as I mentioned I can barely keep a New Year’s resolution. The thought of it on its own is a bit overwhelming to me. This planner has it all, breaks it down into manageable sections and just happens to fit perfectly with my word for the year, being intentional.

It's never been about coffee or chocolate or wine. It's never been about coffee or chocolate or wine. It is a heart matter. A Creator who seeks our hearts. A Savior who's heart we seek. Because in the end it is only He who can truly fill it and make it whole.

Rest. Jesus' command to his apostles in today's Go Rest. Jesus' command to his apostles in today's Gospel. Rest awhile. Something that is such a struggle for me, but it is a command from Jesus himself. After His apostles had ministered, taught and served, Jesus knew they needed rest. To pray, to fill themselves, to refocus, to reflect, to wonder at God's faithfulness.
.
So why do I find it so difficult as a mother to make it a priority to carve out time for myself to rest. And not feel guilty about it. Surely my wisdom does not exceed God's. Christ knew that in order for His apostles to continue to give to others they first had to be filled.
.
How are you resting this weekend?
